Nagaloka A-I-R Programme

Call for applications 2019
Deadline: August 25th, 2019

Nagaloka ArtsNagaloka Artist-In-Residence Programme is a new initiative undertaken to foster a creative environment for the arts within the already active campus of Nagaloka, home of the Nagarjuna Training Institute, the tall Walking Buddha statue, and host to major international and national programmes exploring engaged Buddhist practices and Dr. Ambedkar’s teachings. The AIR Programme is set to open in October 2019 and will provide participants with an opportunity to engage with students and Buddhist scholars in and around Nagpur, access our library and resources, participate in daily activities such as meditation, and push their practice further in a lush, green environment.

We invite artists interested in Buddhist arts and aesthetics and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s vision of liberty, equality, and fraternity, to apply for its inaugural programme. The residency provides the opportunity for selected participants to live and work in Nagaloka for three weeks, while being immersed in the surrounding campus’s activities. Launching in October 2019, the Nagaloka AIR Programme will host 2 participants in its first year.

Residents will be invited to take full advantage of all activities taking place at Nagaloka. Residents will also be expected to present one public programme (a talk, screening, gathering or other event), to introduce their work and research to local audiences.

Nagaloka will cover costs of the incoming residents including

  • Three-tier AC train travel within India to and from Nagaloka
  • Daily meals
  • Administrative support
  • Bedroom with access to WiFi
  • A workspace
  • A materials budget of Rs.10,000
  • A stipend of Rs.5,000

Any additional costs will have to be incurred by the resident.

The AIR Programme aims to support innovative practices, develop global networks, and engage the local Buddhist community in Nagpur. Residents must commit to three weeks in full-time residence in Nagaloka and be ready to make the most of the resources that Nagaloka will make available. Artists will also be requested to donate one artwork to Nagaloka at the end of their residency.

Applicants should have a professional practice of at least three years. Collectives will also be considered if they are willing to share the living space. Applications are open to those of any nationality, although securing a Visa, if necessary, will be the responsibility of the resident.
